Well it would appear that the Penny Arcade Expo East will be staying put for a bit longer down the road. They have just inked a deal to stay in the area, and to be honest I'm pretty sure that the city of Boston isn't going to mind. Actually I think any city that can get a PAX would be more than happy to sign a deal like this. The hotels, restaurants, stores, etc definitely get a lift from all of the gamers and Penny Arcade enthusiasts descending upon their town. Not to mention that PAX donates some of the money they give to Massachusetts Digital Games Institute. Now of course if you've been going to PAX, either of them, you will have noticed that the attendance has increased every year, and apparently Boston is hoping that soon there will be 100,000 attendees showing up.
Personally I think if PAX gets to that size that the magic will be somewhat lost to me. I know that I've been luck and been able to go to 5 PAXs (3 Prime, 2 East), and that there are so many other people out there who want to go but can't because the tickets sell out, but at the same time by incrementally increasing the size the lines are going to get longer, the panels are going to be harder to get into, the aisles are going to be over run with people waiting in line, stopping to watch something, talking to someone, or other things. I don't know it just feels like one can get lost in there, and not in the magical way of there was just so much to see, but I went in there to play this demo and now its 5 PM, and I missed out on everything else.
Anyways, congratulations to Boston for locking PAX in, I wish that one day we could have something like that in Atlanta. Yes, I'm aware Atlanta has DragonCon, but as I can personally tell you, that is something completely different.
