Super Mario Galaxy Review

When this game came out and I saw the 3D world in which the player would be playing around in I was a bit hesitant to pick up this title. I'm one of those people that loved Mario in a side scroller type of view, but I ended up getting this game anyways because I read how much people liked it.

Super Mario Galaxy has you playing the role of Mario, as always, and it is your job to come and rescue the princess, as always, this time from a galaxy far far away (don't worry that's where the Star Wars parallels stop). You'll have to travel from galaxy to galaxy to free stars to power a spaceship to get you to the galaxy that the princess is being held in. Through some of those galaxies you will have to assume different forms to help conquer the level. My two personal favorites were bee-mario and ice-mario.

With Bee-Mario, you are thrusted into a bee suit antennas and all and you have the ability to do short burst flutters to move up through a stage. With Ice-Mario, you look the mario, if he was made of ice, you'll be able to freeze any water that you touch which can come in very handy if you have to climb, say a waterfall.

The graphics in this game are sharp and really draw the player in. The types of planets and the use of colors just goes to show that Nintendo worked their ass off to make this a well polished game. I really can't think of one time that I wasn't impressed by what I was seeing on the screen, there wasn't any noticeable hitching when things got a bit nuts on the screen either.

The controls were for the most part more than good. The only thing that kind of got to be was that there were times when Mario was upside down that I had a bit of disorientation and I couldn't quickly correct myself before Mario got into harms way.

The gameplay was phenomenal, I really don't know what else to say. Nintendo did its job, they got an awesome looking, well controlled, and fun game all wrapped up into one. I will say this there were times where I felt that I was breezing through levels in the middle of the game where some of the previous levels were harder, also some of the special galaxies that appeared were a bit tedious, but the last level made up for it all, as it was by far the hardest level of the game.

I give Super Mario Galaxy a 9.3 out of 10.
