God of War: Chains of Olympus Review

God of War Chains of Olympus is the next game in the God of War series. Though the game maybe short it was quite entertaining. You play the role of Kratos, the Ghost of Sparta, forever tormented by nightmares, and the only way to make those nightmares disappear is by helping the Gods of Olympus with thier quests.

Graphically the was stunning for a PSP game. I think that that might have been one of the reasons why the game only plays out to around 6-8 hours because of the huge amount of graphics. The game will have you playing through a city under attack, through caves, through temples, and through fields. All of the aforementioned level designs were amazing. The rendering of the enemies wasn't too shabby either, but I think the surprise came when you met the majority of the female characters in the game with their lack for clothed torsos.

The controls seem to pile up on each other, as you level up certain parts of your arsenal you'll notice that there might be slight changes to your attack pattern, that's not always a bad thing, but something that a player needs to be on the look out for. You'll be controlling your swords, a shield, Effret, sun shot, the mask of Charon, and the gauntlet of Zeus. To be honest I'm a button masher so as long as the swords kept the enemies at bay I rarely used anything else, except for the shield which is essential if you're going to survive some of the fights.

Overall I think that this game is a must have if you like the God of War series, but I think that you have to be prepared to feel like the story kind of jumps from time to time because of the limited space on the UMD that is the game. To be honest there are certain parts of the game in retrospect that really didn't fit in or were one time occurences that will leave the gamer wondering if it will happen again in the game but doesn't. On example is the random nude ladies that are entertwined with each other and you get to interact with them, don't worry, or worry, the camera focuses on a candle during your "session" with them. I guess the feeling I have with this game when its all said and done is that it feels rushed and I think it will leave players wanting more but unable to find it. So if you want to slightly ease your desire to play God of War III then pick this game up, or if you're looking for a game that can have you feeling a sense of accomplishment in a short time pick this game up. So with that I have to give this game an 8.1 out of 10.
