Aedis Eclipse: Generation of Chaos Review

Aedis Eclipse: Generation of Chaosis turn based RPG board game. You'll be playing in 1 of three different areas underground, above ground, and in the sky. Each of these areas have different stories. The underground one is a good place to start for those who want to learn all the basics of the game.
The graphics really are your standard affair when you think PSP and NIS. You're going to have cartoony looking characters on the overview board, and they will stay that way with the addition of their units in battle. The special attacks really don't pop out at you either. So I'd really have to say that on the graphics end this game is exactly what you'd expect from a PSP game.
The controls are very simplistic as well, maybe a little too simplistic when it comes to battle though. You'll basically be using the directional arrows, the X, and the O for almost everything in the game.
I'd like to talk about the battles so that I can really hit the nail on the head. This game would be amazing if the battle system had any thought to it. You really just have the option of giving them a formation and then saying ATTACK!! and then your general and their soldiers are going to walk around to where they think they should attack. I can't tell you how frustrating it is when all that has to be done to win is to defeat the enemy general and all your units have decided to either wonder off completely and at random decide to engage the enemy, or they decide to all surround an enemy that can take them out in droves, or the best one is the general is picking everybody off and yet they keep trying to go after their soldiers instead of taking the general out. If a player had more control in the combat and not feel like they are just spinning a wheel and hoping to be a winner this game would be solid, but in all honesty after going through many many battles I can tell you that this aspect of the game feels like at the last minute the company had remembered that combat hadn't been implemented so they threw something together.
I enjoyed the stories, and the characters for the most part. I also like the fact that you really had to take into consideration what leaders to deploy because of the map and its element dependent squares. I also liked the fact that time of day could be a huge factor in battle. I just wish the battles were crisper, that you could preview the map before entering battle, and that items that you found on the battle field could be found in the store not if I find an item and sell it to the store then the store hikes up the price and I'm broke so that I can have 2 of that item instead of one. This game had potential and it seemed to just step sideways right when it could have been great. 7.8 out of 10
