Hot Shots Golf Open Tee Review

Hot Shots Golf: Open Tee is the first entry of the series onto the PSP platform. You'll be playing on several different courses taking on challenges and gaining wardrobe pieces, caddies, and unlockable characters. As the title suggests this game is a golf game and it really sticks pretty close to home when it comes to golf.

The graphics are your standard affair for the PSP there's nothing that really stands out about this title, but at the same time there isn't anything about this game that will leave a player thinking god this is ugly. You're going to see a lot of the character that you select and you're going to see that adding different parts to their appearance will make them visually change during the game.

The controls are pretty basic, well unless you are trying to put some spin on the ball then it gets a bit tricky. You're going to live and die by the X button, and possible the analog stick when you are choosing your ideal placement for the ball.

The gameplay is pretty smooth, its nice that you can just press X after a swing to speed of the game so that you don't have to see the entire flight of your shot. Its also a nice touch that by pressing the triangle button you can go all the way out to where you're going to hit the ball and beyond. The majority of the game will be putting you on either the front 9 or the back 9 if you're going to do challenges to unlock things. There is a mode where you can just play the entire 18 and that can be enjoyable as well. There's also the multiplayer and when you're just playing against one opponent which is what I do there's very little lag.

The one thing that I do find odd about the game is the fact that after you complete a challenge or round you are given the autosave screen, which only allows for one save as far as I can figure, and then you are given this zen moment of a sunset or water lapping a shore. I'm a bit confused by that and I wish that it was an easy way to have multiple golfers on the same system.

I know that this one is basically a bit aged at this point by I still find myself going back to this game because its the kind of game that you can play for a little bit and then come back later and not miss much and it fills the lulls of the day without requiring too much thinking. I give this game a 8.5 out of 10
