CRUSH Review

Crush is a puzzle game for the PSP that probably didn't get enough attention when it first came out (May 2007). In this game you play as a patient suffering from insomnia, and the cure is working with machine to solve the problems/levels that are in your brain. To be honest I tried to get as far as I could in this game but I have ultimately fallen short, therefore my character will never be able to solve is sleeping problems along with get that crazy contraption off his head.
The graphics are your standard affair for the PSP, you're placed in a 3D word which is basically made up of blocks, some might be slightly different colors or shapes and there will be items in the level, but over all its a world of boxes.
The controls will have you sometimes cursing as you are trying to move around a level and you accidentally change the view of the level. You're going to need to know how to do that well because the real game starts when you take different views of the level and then "CRUSH" it into a 2D world. This is how you'll be navigating to get those pieces that seem out of reach or how you're going to bridge that huge gap that was just there. In a way this has some of the same feeling as Echochrome, but with color and a bit more control over your character.
The levels are given to you in difficulty rankings, and throughout the level you're charged with collecting at least enough of the glowing orbs to open up the exit. There are also hidden puzzle pieces, trophies, and such which can open up new things in the overall game, or just give you a better score. I do have to say that player beware of when you're CRUSHing you might find yourself making a character pancake because of something that is in his way, or where he might be standing.
I like this game because it presents a challenge, I really wish I had the brains to figure out some of the intricate ways to solve the level and actually get the extras in the level, but I have to say that this game is something that a lot of people will like. They might not personally really like or want to follow the story, but that is just part of the game and something that if you really wanted to you can just ignore as it just goes on without any real player input except for the fact that you are solving levels.
This game deserves a 8.4 out of 10.
